Troubleshooting - Why is my test email being spam filtered?

Last updated by Adrin Siripala on September 17, 2015 19:20

There could be several reasons why your email is being spam filtered. The journey an email takes is quite complex and your email has to pass through several filters including server and local email client filters. So to maximise your chances of achieving successful deliveries, here are some troubleshooting tips:

1. Subject Line wording is key. avoid the word FREE, the % sign, the £ sign, CAPITAL LETTERS and punctuation. Keep your subject line brief so the meaning is clear in your recipients inbox.

2. Personalise your email e.g. use the %FirstName% tag in your opening. For example Hi %FirstName%. The tag will draw down your contacts' first names from their contact record.

3. Keep a healthy balance between text and images. Don't overload your campaign with images and don't use just 1 image for the entire campaign. Perhaps consider more text in proportion to images.

4. Always include an unsubscribe link in your campaigns (which is mandatory with inTouch) in both the html and plain text versions.

If you still have further questions about this e.g. subject lines then refer to our other guides on this and/or raise a support ticket to our Support team.
